PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily perform focus control upon a predetermined target. SOLUTION: A subject information holding section 300 holds a width of a face detected in the past and its face feature value while being associated with each other. A face detecting section 171 detects the face contained in imaging data from an imaging section 101, and a preferential face determination section 173 determines a preferential face from among faces detected. An identical face determination section 174 determines whether the current preferential face is identical to the preferential face in the past by comparing a face feature value extracted by a face feature value extracting section 172 with the face feature value being held in the subject information holding section 300. If it is determined that the faces are identical to each other, based on the width of the face being held in the subject information holding section 300, a subject distance calculating section 175 calculates a distance to the current preferential face. On the basis of the distance to the current preferential face, an automatic focus range setting section 176 estimates a focal position for the current preferential face to set a focus lens moving range.
