<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device light leakage of which in black display is little and which enables high-quality display of high contrast. <P>SOLUTION: The active matrix system liquid crystal display device of an orthogonal normally black type in the polarization axis of a polarizing plate comprises holding a liquid crystal between a color filter substrate formed with a black matrix two-dimensionally arranged with apertures and colored films in the apertures, and a TFT substrate opposed thereto. The total of the lengths of the sides when the angle θ formed by the polarization axis of the polarizing plate and the sides constituting the apertures of the polygon satisfies inequalities (1): 90°×n+35°≤θ≤90°×n + 55°(=0, 1, 2, 3) is ≤50% of the total of the lengths of all the sides constituting the apertures of the polygon, and both of the pair of substrates are ≥1,000 in contrast. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
