An adaptor tool-head for converting an internal-grooving tool of the kind described in U.S.A. Specification 2,411,426 into an external - grooving tool comprises a two-limbed tool - mounting member and a work - centring means, one limb of the member being removably attached to the tool-positioning shaft of the earlier device and the other carrying a tool which extends towards the shaft, the centring means being adjustably secured to the spindle a predetermined axial distance from the tool. The earlier device comprises a body 10 with a shank 11 to fit a drill or other revolving member of a machine. A spindle 12 at the other end of the device has a tool shaft 13 eccentrically mounted therein (Fig. 5). The shaft 13 is rotated relatively to the spindle 12 by cam mechanism in the body when the spindle 12 is restrained against axial movement. A two-limbed toolcarrying member 15 is secured to a taper 40 on the end of the tool-shaft. The tool 20 is secured to the member 15 by set-screws 22a, 22b. Two spaced-apart grooving tools may be employed, and a tool for cutting a bevelled end on the work is also described. The spindle 12 supports a work-centring steady 25 which is adjustable axially by releasing a screw 27, the axial setting gauging the distance from the end of the stationary work 38 at which the grooving tool will cut. The steady 29 supports an antifriction bearing 36 and a rotating centring-piece 35 which fits over the end of the work. |
