PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal rust preventive composition which is useful for obtaining a film for metal rust prevention having excellent rust preventing effects on ferrous metals, such as cast iron and iron and steel, and nonferrous metals, such as copper, zinc and aluminum. SOLUTION: This metal rust preventive composition contains the following (1) and (2): (1) alkali metal salt of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid; (2) at least one selected from the group consisting of triazole compounds, pyrazolone compounds and imidazole compounds.
