<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase engine torque in a wide range of operation area while maintaining exhaust performance by a single exhaust turbocharger 50 with a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: A supercharger for an engine 1 with a supercharger includes an exhaust manifold 16, a gathering part 31c where exhaust passages of all the cylinders 3 are gathering together, and the exhaust turbocharger 50 on a downstream side thereof. The supercharger includes a variable exhaust valve 30 capable of changing effective opening areas of respective outlets 17a, 17bc, 17d of the exhaust manifold 16. A control means 20 of the variable exhaust valve 30 improves the supercharging performance by ejector effect by reducing the effective opening areas of the respective outlets 17a, 17bc, 17d in a partial load operation area R12 of a supercharging area.
