PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a playback device which improves user friendliness, when playing back a video file complying with a standard for displaying a menu before and after playback of the video file and another video file in a state they coexist, while complying with the standard. SOLUTION: A playback device 1 includes an OSD (on-screen display) combination unit 5, an output unit 6, an operating unit 7, and a control unit 9. The OSD combination unit 5 combines OSD. The output unit 6 outputs a video signal and an audio signal. The control unit 9 stores in a ROM respective programs of management processing 91, menu output processing 92 and playback processing 93. In the control processing 91, a first video file (DMF file) and a second video file (file other than the DMF file) are distributed and controlled. In the menu output processing 92, first and second menus are separately output for each of the first video file and the second video file. When the first video file is completely played back, the first menu is output and when the first menu is output, upon predetermined operation, it is switched to the second menu.
