摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector device capable of improving efficiency in using illumination light. SOLUTION: The projector device includes: illumination optical systems 222 and 222B disposed between a light source and a PBS block 223, and adapted to convert the illumination light emitted from the light source into a generally parallel light beam and to direct the generally parallel light beam to enter the PBS block 223; and a reflection liquid crystal display element 224 having a rectangular display region 240 arranged facing the illumination light beam exit surface of the PBS block 223, from which the illumination light beam polarization-split by the polarization-splitting surface 223a exits, and for modulating the illumination light polarization-split by the polarization-splitting surface 223a into a modulated light beam and directing the modulated light beam toward the PBS block 223. The display region 240 of the reflection liquid crystal element 224 is rectangular. Regarding the illumination optical systems 222 and 222B, the refractive power related to the short side direction of the rectangular display area 240 is larger than the refractive power related to the long side direction of the rectangular display region 240.
