A technique of reducing the power consumption of the packaging machine of a packaging system without lowering the availability factor of the whole system. The packaging system comprises a processing device for subjecting a supplied object to a predetermined processing and discharging the processed object and a packaging machine for packaging the object discharged from the processing device. The packaging device has a control unit for integrally controlling the overall operation of the packaging machine. The control unit allows the packaging machine in a power-saving mode if supply of objects to be processed by the processing device is insufficient or if insufficient supply of object to be processed by the processing device is predicted.
