PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peer to peer communication method and system, allowing a terminal having low link speed to transfer files at a high speed. SOLUTION: A cell phone 2 is a non-peer terminal not participating in a peer. The cell phone 2 is provided with a peer function part 5. A GW connected to the Internet 1 by a high-speed link is provided with a proxy function part 4 to participate in the peer. The proxy function part 4 collects a piece of a file from each peer by proxy in response to a proxy request transmitted from the peer function part 5 of the cell phone 2, and transfers the collected pieces to the peer function part 5 of the cell phone 2 via a low-speed wireless link.
