<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve wide dynamic range, high image quality display, and high contrast display in an EL display device. <P>SOLUTION: In a driving method for the EL display device having a display screen in which pixels having EL elements are arranged in a matrix, video data input to the EL display device are totaled, and based on the result of the total, the dynamic range of image display is changed. The video data are totaled by weighing in the color of each pixel.
