PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hinge mechanism capable of rotating and sliding and preventing mechanical components from being exposed, and to provide a portable terminal using the hinge mechanism. SOLUTION: The hinge mechanism includes a first unit fixed to an overlap side of a first case of the portable terminal having the first case and a second case put one over the other, and a second unit fixed to an overlap side of the second case, and connects the first unit and second unit to each other, wherein an intermediate unit is provided between the first unit and second unit, the first unit has a guide portion guiding slide movement of the intermediate body, and the intermediate unit has a guide engagement portion engaging the guide portion to slide and move, a rotary support portion supporting the second unit rotatably, and a cover portion covering the first unit so that the first unit is not exposed on an overlap side surface of the first case during the sliding and rotation.
