PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp which is superior in adhesion to an electrode to properly suppress the temperature rise of the electrode, which is superior in protecting the surface of the electrode, whose inner tube wall is less blackened, and which has a longer service life, and to provide its electrode structure. SOLUTION: In the electrode structure for the discharge lamp, the discharge lamp has an anode 3 and a cathode 6 installed opposing each other at the center of a bulb in a swollen emission space, where an uneven face of a Rmax of 10μm or more is formed on the outer surface excluding the vicinity of the front end of at least one electrode out of the anode 3 and the cathode 6. A heat release layer containing at least one type of metal oxide is formed on the uneven face. The discharge lamp 1 has the electrode structure for this discharge lamp. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
