PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which enables even a beginner to easily make back-tack stitches at the start and end of sewing a pattern when performing free motion sewing, and a back-tack stitch processing program for the free motion sewing. SOLUTION: When a free motion sewing mode is set, back-tack stitch data are read from a ROM according to a command signal of sewing start from a start/stop switch or a command signal from a back-tack stitch switch at the end of sewing (S30). After a feed dog is moved to an elevated position by the drive of a feed dog settling stepping motor and the feed dog is switched to an operating state (S31), a presser foot is lowered together with a presser bar by the drive of a presser bar driving stepping motor and the presser foot is moved to a pressurizing position (S32).
