PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine which is achieved inexpensively without requiring a smoothing capacitor of a high withstand voltage and high capacitance. SOLUTION: The washing machine includes: a drum 3 for housing laundry and performing rotary movement; a water tub 2 freely rotatably including the drum 3 and resiliently supported inside a washing machine body; a motor 7 for rotationally driving the drum 3; a rotation speed detection part 33 for detecting the rotation speed of the motor 7; and a control part 31 for controlling the rotation of the motor 7 on the basis of the detection output of the rotation speed detection part 33. The washing machine further includes a motor 37 capable of consuming a current, and an inverter circuit 36 and a drive circuit 38 capable of leading a regenerative current output from the motor 7 to the motor 37. The control part 31 performs control so as to lead the regenerative current to the motor 37 when detecting that the motor 7 is performing a decelerating operation on the basis of the detection output of the rotation speed detection part 33.
