<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight without color unevenness and luminance unevenness and with excellent luminance efficiency, as well as a liquid crystal display equipped with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight is provided with a light source part containing a plurality of LEDs 16 and a light guide plate 20, and is to be a side light type backlight in which the plurality of LEDs 16 are arranged on the light incident face, with an end face facing to the light guide plate 20 to be a light incident face.
