An impregnated cutting structure 200 includes a plurality of first encapsulated particles 210, each first encapsulated particle comprising a first abrasive particle 212 encapsulated by a first matrix material shell 214; and a plurality of second encapsulated particles 220, the second encapsulated particles 220 comprising a second abrasive particle 222 encapsulated by a second matrix material shell 224, wherein the first encapsulated particles 210 and the second encapsulated particles 220 have at least one property difference. The property which is different can be coarseness or compressive strength. A method of forming the cutting structure is also claimed. Also claimed is a bit body having a number of ribs (615, fig 6A) where a portion of at least one rib has a height (640, fig 6B) to width(650, fig 6A) ratio greater than 1.75 with a diamond concentration of 100 and includes abrasive material encapsulated by a matrix material. |
