In the present invention, there is disclosed a crystal of Pi1, Pi4-di(uridine 5'-)tetraphosphate (Ui2Pi4) or a salt thereof of high purity and stability and a method for preparing such crystal wherein the preparation method comprises purification of crude Ui2Pi4 using anion exchange chromatography and activated-charcoal chromatography and crystallization thereof using hydrophilic organic solvent. The process for producing Ui2Pi4 or a salt thereof achieving high efficiency consists in mixing uridine 5'- monophosphate (UMP) serving as a starting material and diphenyl phosphochloridate (DPC) and pyrophosphate (PPi), where the process is characterized by including at least one of following steps: a) adding UMP diphenylphosphate in divided portions during a step of reaction of UMP-DPP with a PPi-organic alkali salt, b) carrying out reaction of UMP-DPP with a PPi-organic alkali salt in the presence of a base and c) after Ui2Pi4 synthesis is the reaction product purified with an alkali. |
