A communications unit comprising a master clock 60, operating to the first resolution, a slave clock 50 operating to a second resolution higher than the first resolution, means configured to respond to a request, preferably from application 80, to report a clock value by reporting: (a) the current value of the master clock and (b) time stamp information indicating the time on the slave clock at which the master clock ticked to its current value. Application 80 may determine an offset value for synchronization by comparing the time stamp information received via HCI firmware 90 and the time value received directly from slave clock 50. The communications unit is preferably a Bluetooth audio playback device with a clock tick period of 312.5 microseconds. |
