<p>A surface-treating appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner (1), has a main body (2) and a support assembly (14). The support assembly (14) is moveable between a supporting position, in which it supports the main body (2), and a retracted position. The support assembly (14) comprises a user-operable pedal (22), a component such as a stand (15) and an actuator (25) arranged to act on one of the pedal (22) and the component (15) over a first range of positions between the supporting and retracted positions and to act on the other of the pedal (22) and the component (15) over a second range of positions between the supporting and retracted positions. This arrangement brings the pedal (22) and component (15) positively into and out of the supporting and retracted positions.</p> |
