A medical device delivery system (110) is disclosed which has a distal inner sheath (140) and a distal outer sheath (144) covering a medical device mounting region (136) and any medical device (168) mounted thereon. The outer sheath (144) is designed to retain the medical device (168) for lengthy periods of time while the inner sheath (140 ) is designed to retain the sheath for shorter periods of time.
