PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of saponifying a transparent film by which growth of a crack is controlled, whitening is controlled, and adhesion is improved. SOLUTION: In the method for saponifying a transparent film by applying a saponification solution to the transparent film, the saponification solution comprises at least an alkali agent, a water-soluble organic solvent, and a surfactant surface temperature T (°C) of the transparent film in the case of applying the saponification solution, contact time t (sec) of the saponification solution and the transparent film, and an alkali concentration C (mol/kg) of the saponification solution satisfy relational expressions (1): T<-0.6t-2.8C+47, (2): T<40, and (3): C>0.99.
