[Also in Group XXIII] A sink unit has a drive take-off shaft 45 above the sink 13 driven by a motor 20 independent of the drive to the mechanical agitator of a washing machine and to a centrifuge also provided in the sink unit, the shaft 45 being adapted for operation of kitchen appliances such as 43 over the sink. The motor 20, in one direction of rotation, drives the shaft 45 through Vee-belt 19 and step-down gearing 44 enclosed oil-tightly in a housing 46 ; when reversed it drives a waste suction pump 22 for the washing machine. The kitchen appliances, which may include rotating brushes for cleaning, to be driven directly or through a flexible shaft, may be housed in a cupboard 41. |
