The membrane (2) has a structured surface, in the form of raised- and depressed locations. The raised locations have greater vapor permeability than the depressed locations, or vice versa. The membrane is adhered to an upper material (1) and on the other side, to a lining material (3). In manufacture, the membrane is laid on a conveyor belt and impressed by a roller, or by two rollers forming a nip. The roller surfaces are appropriately-structured. The membrane is expanded after rolling, this being carried out in selected areas. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR the method of manufacturing the membrane.
