The method involves providing a hologram master (2), and arranging holographic recording material (4) relative to the hologram master. A background pattern is stored in the hologram master comprising weakly and strongly scattered regions (15, 16), and modulated coherent light (8) comprising coded individualization information e.g. passport photograph of human person, is impressed at the regions during reflection or deflection at the hologram master so that the pattern is observable or detectable by the individualization information individualized during reconstruction of a hologram. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for manufacturing individualized hologram as a security feature of a security document (2) an individualized hologram comprising a holographic recording material.
