PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking assist method capable of detecting a parking position and generating a track at the time of being ready for parking without pre-measurement of the parking position, and guiding a vehicle to the parking position when parking the vehicle by backward movement. SOLUTION: A contour of a parking vehicle behind a vehicle is measured by a laser measurement device 11 disposed behind a vehicle 1, and the contour is corrected by overlapping the measurement result and nearly rectangular shape for a part that is not measured by the laser measurement device 11 to acquire parked vehicles 11 and 12, and a provisional parking target position 3 adjacent to the vehicles. Next, a track 4 connecting a current position of the vehicle 1 and the provisional parking target position 3 is acquired to automatically guide the vehicle 1. By repeatedly performing measurement during backward move parking, the parked vehicles 11 and 12, and the track 4 are properly corrected, and finally the vehicle 1 is guided to the parking position 5.
