Disclosed is a composition which is curable by an active energy ray such as an ultraviolet light or an electron beam. This curable composition is particularly useful for coating materials and inks. Specifically disclosed is an active energy ray-curable composition which is excellent in cationic polymerizability and adhesion to a base. This composition is curable by an active energy ray such as an ultraviolet light, and essentially contains a cationically polymerizable compound (a) represented by the general formula (1) below, a cationic photopolymerization initiator (b) and water (c). General formula (1) (In the formula, R represents an alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms; R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; n represents a number of 1-4; and m represents a number of 0-10.)
