The electrolyte of a lead-acid battery consists of a mixture of dilute sulphuric acid and fine particles of silica of sub-micron size. The mixture may contain 8-24 per cent by weight of the silica having a particle size of about 0.015 Á and may be whisked to lower its viscosity prior to pouring into the battery. |
