PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shelf position detector for movable shelves which can always correctly detect a current position of a unit shelf without being specially moved for position detection and can easily be installed. SOLUTION: In this shelf position detector for movable shelves, a laser scanner S is installed at a position capable of irradiating a laser beam in directions of all moving unit shelves. Laser beam reflectors R2, R3, ... to reflect the laser beam of the laser scanner S in the incoming direction are set on moving unit shelves A2, A3, .... The laser reflectors R2, R3, ... for the laser scanner S are usually within the scanning angle range of the laser scanner S even when the laser reflectors R2, R3, ... move with the unit shelves and disposed in position relation so that the detection orders by scanning are usually the same. Calculation means 11, 12, 13 calculate distances of laser beam reflectors R2, R3, ... from the laser scanner S detected by the laser scanner S and positions of the unit shelves A2, A3, ... by inputting at least one azimuth.
