PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and an original document reading position detecting program, can detecting original document reading position. SOLUTION: Upon receiving an image signal outputted from a reading section, an original document reading position detection section monitors the change in the density, in the scanning direction from a white pattern to an original document and a change in the density in the scanning direction from a black pattern to the original document. Here, if the density in the scanning direction from the white pattern to the original document changes, from high to low, or the density in a scanning direction from the black pattern to the original document changes from low to high, the original document reading position detection section determines the position where change has occurred as the original document reading position.
