PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly convey a medium by performing determination so that the relative positional relation between a target moving section and an actual kick occurrence position is a predetermined positional relation. SOLUTION: A moving section determination method is configured to include: a step of measuring a position in the conveying direction of the medium when the state of the medium is shifted from a state where the medium is conveyed by both of a pair of upstream side conveying rollers and a pair of downstream side conveying rollers to a state where the medium is conveyed by only one of the both; and a step of determining the target moving section of the medium in a conveying operation where the medium is conveyed to pass through the measured position, in the conveying operation for liquid discharge processing which is executed in such a manner that the conveying operation where the medium is conveyed by at least one of the both and a discharge operation where liquid is discharged to the medium are alternately repeated, so that the relative positional relation between the target moving section and the measured position is the predetermined relational position.
