PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ruler which is convertible for both a left-handed use and a right-handed use without complicating a dimensional display of the ruler. SOLUTION: The ruler 1 for both the left-handed use and the right-handed use keeps scale mark lines 6 each representing a measurement dimension displayed in mm over a range of 20 cm along the upper longer side 3 of the transparent resin-made ruler body 2. A Chinese numeral (O) is displayed as a dimensional notation at a position in the vicinity of the extended scale mark line 6a based on the scale mark line 6a in the leftmost end of the scale mark lines 6 as a reference position, and Chinese even numerals 7 of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 cm are vertically represented as dimensional notations at the positions in the vicinity of the extended scale mark lines 6a of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 cm from the standard position respectively.
