PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated tool which has a cBN sintered body as the base and has a long service life. SOLUTION: In this surface-coated tool 1, a coating layer expressed by (Al<SB>1-a-b</SB>Si<SB>a</SB>M<SB>b</SB>)C<SB>1-x-y</SB>N<SB>x</SB>O<SB>y</SB>(wherein M is one or more types selected from among the Periodic Table, Group 4, 5 and 6 metals, 0.005≤a≤0.5, 0≤b≤0.6, 0≤x≤1, 0≤y<1) is formed on the surface of the cBN sintered body which is formed of cubic silicon nitride (cBN) particles, and a remaining binder which contains an aluminum Al compound and a titanium Ti compound, and in which the content of the Al compound with respect to the total content of the binder is 30 wt.% or higher.
