855,252. Cooling furnace walls. SALEM-BROSIUS SOC. ANON. HOLDING. Oct. 2, 1958 [Oct. 9, 1957], No. 31509/58. Class 51 (2). In a continuous billet heating furnace having burners 9 above and below skid rails 2, the outlet end wall 7 has a tubular cooling element 14, Fig. 9, extending through side walls 8 and supported externally by saddle members 12 on I- beams 13, said element being sprayed with refractory internally of the furnace to build up a monolithic layer 24. The element may be strengthened by an I-beam 16 welded internally thereof, and, where the coolant is river water, may have air pipes 20 with spaced holes for the introduction of air streams to keep sediment in suspension. Gaggers 23 are provided to key the refractory layer 24 on to the element. Each of a pair of flues 11 is partially mounted on a U-shaped, air-cooled element 25 supported externally on saddles 27, Fig. 2, on channel girders 28 and by brackets 29, Fig. 6, suspended from the furnace structure. The element 25 may support either monolithic refractory material or assembled refractory blocks or both. |
