PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a car holding system of an elevator capable of simply and mechanically holding a car under a condition that the car of the elevator stops at an elevator hall and a door of the car is opened when abnormal incidents like an earthquake occur. SOLUTION: This car holding system 20 of an elevator comprises a car 1 of an elevator provided with a car door 2 at an entrance/exit, and a drive mechanism 23 driving the car 1. In addition, a car supporting plate 4 having an opening hole 4a is provided on a top surface of the car 1, and a car holding rod 6 capable of freely penetrating through the opening hole 4a of the car supporting plate 4 is provided on an inner wall of an elevator shaft 22. Moreover, a detection plate 3 having an opening hole 3a is provided to the car door 2, and a detection rod 5 capable of freely penetrating through the opening hole 3a of the detection plate 3 is provided on an inner wall of the elevator shaft 22. Furthermore, a spring 13 energizing the car holding rod 6, and a stopper 8 engaged with the car holding rod 6 are provided, and a transmission rod 7 is connected between the stopper 8 and the detection rod 5.
