PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crusher having a structure capable of efficiently crushing a granular material to be crushed to form powder and efficiently suppressing foreign substances from contaminating the crushed product. SOLUTION: The crusher crushes granules of a material to be crushed to form powder by virtue of the mutual collision of the granules of the material discharged from a rotating rotor unit 140 by its centrifugal force into a whirling gas in the inner space 121 of a crushing-space member 120 caused to whirl by the rotation of the rotor unit 140 and by a gas introduced thereinto from a side gas-suction mechanism 160. The side gas-suction mechanism 160 is so structured that the width of a plurality of slit-like suction ports 161 is made to be variable, whereby the volume and the velocity of the suction gas sucked by the side gas-suction mechanism 160 can be controlled as desired. Therefore, the efficiency of crushing and the particle size of the resulting powder can be controlled by changing the velocity of the material whirling in the inner space 121 of the crushing-space member 120.
