PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosetting resin composition, which has excellent curing property and storage stability, is reduced in the degassing amount in the curing process, and can form a cured film being excellent in various physical properties such as heat resistance, visible light transmittance, solvent resistance, etc. SOLUTION: This thermosetting resin composition for a protective film of a color filter comprises the following (A) and (B) components and has 0.3 to 1.2 ratio of the molar concentrations (the hemiacetal esterified carboxyl group)/(the epoxy group or oxetanyl group). (A); a polymer consisting of 50 to 100 wt.% constituting unit derived from a hemiacetal esterified unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, 50 to 0 wt.% another constituting unit expressed by formula (4) and having 2,000 to 200,000 weight-average molecular weight, and (B); a composition consisting of an epoxy or oxetanyl group-containing compound, containing≥2 epoxy or oxetanyl groups in one molecule and also having 140 to 1,000 g/mol epoxy equivalent.
