A photographing device which is more convenient for a user with reduced malfunction. The photographing device comprises an operation part, a control part, a photographing part, a face extraction part, a face identification part, a range setting part, a pattern identification part, a storage part, and a display part. The photographing device creates an image by photographing a subject using the photographing part and detects whether a face image, which is of a person who gives an instruction to the photographing device and is registered in the storage part in advance, is included in the taken image. When included, an area for detecting a pattern of giving the instruction to the photographing device is set near the included face image. When the pattern is detected in the area, processing designated by the pattern is performed. Therefore, the pattern can be detected more securely to prevent the malfunction.
