<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out a series of trial operation efficiently when heating functions are constructed. <P>SOLUTION: The heat pump water heater is provided with a cooling medium circuit, a water storage tank 6 to store heated water, a heating circuit to supply water at a lower part of the water storage tank 6 to a water-cooling medium heat exchanger 5, and return high temperature water from the water-cooling medium heat exchanger 5 to an upper part of the water storage tank 6, a heat exchanger for heating 9 comprising two passages of a primary side passage and a secondary side passage to heat-exchange between the primary side and the secondary side, a primary circulation circuit for heating for high temperature water at the upper part of the water storage tank 6 to return through the primary side passage of the heat exchanger for heating 9 to the water storage tank 6, and a secondary circulation circuit for heating comprising the secondary side passage of the heat exchanger for heating 9 and a heat radiation means.
