PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that foreign substance remains in a carrying path to cause a medium to collide with the foreign substance, bringing about a flaw, a bend and a sensor malfunction, and a medium carrying malfunction in the worst case because there is no means for ejecting the foreign substance when the foreign substance comes into the carrying path in a medium carrying device in which the medium inserted from an inlet/outlet is carried by a plurality of driven feed rollers and press rollers. SOLUTION: A foreign substance storage box 31 having a guide line 32 facing an opening/closing shutter 17 along the longitudinal direction of the opening/closing shutter 17 is arranged detachably at a lower guide below in the running direction of the opening/closing shutter 17 on this side, and a driving mechanism for opening the opening/closing shutter 17 obliquely downward on this side is connected to one end of a rotating shaft of the opening/closing shutter 17.
