PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device capable of attenuating reciprocating motion of a steering rod without increasing particular calculation cost. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the electronically controllable damping device 26 for steering a vehicle. The vehicle steerable with the steering rod 12 is equipped with the damping device 26 of this kind so as to attenuate the reciprocating motion of the steering rod 12 relative to a pivot axis Z as a center. The invention proposes that an acceleration value generated in the steering rod 12 at the time of steering movement should be detected by an acceleration sensor 34 so that a throttling device 38 of the damping device 26 can be controlled depending particularly on the signal of the sensor 34.
