PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic display device capable of reliably erasing a display without strictly controlling the amount of energization when erasing the display by performing energization in the reverse direction to the energization for display. SOLUTION: The electrochromic display device 100 comprises: a first substrate 10; first electrodes 20; a second substrate 30; second electrodes 40; and an electrochromic composition layer 50, whereby displaying is performed by energization between the first electrodes 20 and the second electrodes 40 and, at the same time, erasing of display is performed by energization in the reverse direction to the energization for the displaying. In the electrochromic display device 100, the electrochromic composition layer 50 contains a leuco dye 52a as an electron donating dye precursor and is provided with an electrochromic composition 52 to which an adsorbent 53 (aluminum oxide and/or aluminum hydroxide) of adsorbing the leuco dye 52a upon the energization for erasing is added.
