PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable optical receptacle that reduces insertion loss of light even to a lateral load, and to provide an optical module using the same. SOLUTION: The optical receptacle, to which an optical fiber held by a ferrule is optically connected, includes the optical fiber 12, the ferrule 10 for holding the optical fiber 12 within an inner hole, and a split sleeve 20 longitudinally having a slit and storing at least a part of the ferrule 10 in a through-hole at one end side thereof. The split sleeve 20 has a first stepped part 20 protruded from the inner wall of the split sleeve 20 and a second stepped part 20d protruded from the outer wall of the split sleeve 20 at the one end side to which the ferrule 10 is inserted, and the ferrule 10 includes a minor diameter part 10b which abuts on the first stepped part 20c at the position where it is inserted to the split sleeve 20.
