PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leak malfunction caused by heater-on while imparting transfer stability by maintaining a precharger in an appropriate state without dew condensation. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus 100 performs primary transfer of a toner image formed on a photoreceptor drum 3, to an intermediate transfer belt 61, and secondary transfer of the primarily transferred toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 61 onto a recording medium. The image forming apparatus 100 is provided with the precharger 200 precharging the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 61 prior to the secondary transfer; a heater for heating the precharger 200; a humidity sensor for measuring the ambient humidity of the precharger 200; and a control part for controlling high voltage application to the precharger 200 and power supply to the heater. The control part supplies power to the heater at timing when high voltage is not applied, and changes control of power supply to the heater based on the ambient humidity measured by the humidity sensor.
