PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction wear between a tappet of a fuel pump and a rider. SOLUTION: The fuel pump comprises: a pumping plunger (201) for pressurizing fuel in a pump chamber; a rider member co-operable with a drive; and an interface member, for example, a leg (226) of the plunger (201) or an intermediate tappet, for imparting drive from the rider member to the pumping plunger (201) to perform a plunger pumping stroke, wherein the interface member includes an arcuate contact surface (244) co-operable with the rider member. This inventive concept also extends to the pumping plunger (201) for pressurizing fuel in the pump chamber of a fuel pump, and the pumping plunger (201) comprises the leg (226) having an arcuate contact surface (244) engaged with the rider member of the fuel pump in use.
