In a disc drive, a disclike information storage medium is rotated and accessed by a contact head touching and sliding on a lubricant applied to the surface of the information storage medium. When a sliding speed of the head is expressed by U, the area of a contact region in a plane of the head directing the information storage medium is expressed by A, and the vertical drag which the contact region of the head receives is expressed by N, the combination of the sliding speed U, the area A and the vertical drag N is set such that a value U·A/N belongs to a region where the frictional coefficient of a frictional force generated in the contact region of the head increases monotonously as the value U·A/N increases.
