PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating the distribution of a layer thickness of charged materials in a blast furnace, with which the distribution of the layer thickness of the charged materials along the furnace radius direction from the center of the furnace to a furnace side wall can be obtained with high precision in a short period of time, and an instrument for measuring the distribution of the layer thickness of the charged materials in the blast furnace, using the method. SOLUTION: A continuous function (f) having non-fixed factors is set, which regulates an estimated shape line pL for simulating the layer upper surface shape of the charged material in the furnace radius at the prescribed position, the layer upper surface is measured with a measuring means in the (n-1)th batch and the (n)th batch, respectively, and the respective estimated shape line at the (n-1)th batch and the (n)th batch are derived by calculating the factor in the continuous function (f) on the basis of the measured value obtained by the above measurement.
