PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure bookbinding strength, while suppressing consumption of an adhesive. SOLUTION: A bookbinding apparatus 50 includes: a roughening section 52 which gives a roughening processing to one end of paper; sections of the bookbinding apparatus 50 other than the roughening section 52 which apply paste to the lateral side of a bundle of the paper and prepare a booklet; and a post-processing control section 200 which determines whether the roughening processing by the roughening section 52 is required, based on the kind of paper before preparation of the booklet, and executes the roughening section the processing of the paper based on the result of determination.
