Disclosed are a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, an electrode and a carbon material. Specifically disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having an electrode which contains a carbon material obtained by a production method comprising a step for heating a compound represented by the formula (1) below or a fired product of the compound at a temperature within the range of 200-300°C in an inert gas atmosphere. (1) (In the formula, R represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-12 carbon atoms, and a hydroxyl group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, a sulfonyl group, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a thioalkyl group, a cyano group, a carboxyl group, an amino group or an amide group may be bonded to the hydrocarbon group; R' represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and n represents 3, 5 or 7.)
