<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently purifying crude chlorohydrin, that is a reaction product obtained by reacting a polyhydroxylated aliphatic hydrocarbon, such as glycerol, and/or an ester of the polyhydroxylated aliphatic hydrocarbon with a chlorinating agent. <P>SOLUTION: The method for purifying crude chlorohydrin is to bring crude chlorohydrin, obtained by reacting a polyhydroxylated aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or an ester of the polyhydroxylated aliphatic hydrocarbon with a chlorinating agent, into countercurrent contact with a diffuser gas and draw out at least a portion of chlorohydrin from crude chlorohydrin entrained by the diffuser gas.
