PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire for heavy load, which prevents the degradation in appearance and durability by significantly improving the rim friction resistance, crack resistance, and weatherability of a rubber chafer, especially the rubber chafer from the portion at least held in contact with a normal rim with air charged at a normal air pressure to the portion coming into contact with a rim flange from when no load is applied until 200% of a normal load is applied. SOLUTION: The elastic modulus of an outermost layer surface of the rubber chafer disposed where it touches the rim flange is set to 11 MPa. In addition, a rubber composition used for the rubber chamfer contains a predetermined resin to decrease the dynamic elastic modulus from the outermost surface of the rubber chafer to the inner surface thereof.
